Smel // IJver

IJver is a beer bar/restaurent that is currently being constructed in the old shipyard N.D.S.M in Amsterdam. IJver became a client at Smel *design agency, who are responsible for the art direction and creation of the identity. During my internship at Smel, I had the pleasure of helping out with the execution of the identity and some of it's items.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

The story - A lost ship called IJver, with the only remaining proof of it's existance being a beer opener artefact, found on a distant shore. This artefact allegedly belonged to one of the ships crewmembers.

Each element of the menu has been thoughtfully curated to evoke a sense of nostalgia while maintaining a contemporary appeal.

This fusion of the past and present creates a visually captivating experience for patrons, inviting them to embark on a culinary journey that pays homage to the rich heritage and traditions preserved within the N.D.S.M's archives.

The word "IJVER" is written using a custom typography that we meticulously developed from scratch. Our inspiration for this unique typeface was drawn from the typography prevalent at the N.D.S.M during the 1940s.
